Thanks to those who attended CaribNOG 2 in St. Lucia on September 19th – 22nd 2011. The meeting was held at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Rodney Bay. The four day event was jointly hosted by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union, the Government of St Lucia and Packet Clearing House, with the kind support of ARIN, LACNIC, ISOC and the BrightPath Foundation.
A key objective of CaribNOG is to better position the Caribbean to address critical technology challenges and issues and to collaboratively derive relevant solutions.
CaribNOG 2 featured representation from a wide cross section of the Caribbean Technical community with speakers from and industry experts from across the region and beyond.
ARIN is pleased to offer a Meetings Fellowship Program to bring new voices and ideas to public policy discussions. This call is for Fellows to attend ARIN XXVIIII in Philadelphia from 12-14 October 2011. If you are interested in participating in the program, submit your application by 26 August. The Caribbean Network Operators Group, (CaribNOG) will be hosting its next regional meeting in Castries, St Lucia, dates to be announced.
CaribNOG is a forum designed specifically to create greater levels of technical collaboration in the Caribbean. This event builds on the meetings in Puerto Rico and St Kitts held earlier this year.
Over the past two years CaribNOG has been building its reputation as an influential forum where network technicians and technology professionals share experiences and participate in high-tech training exercises and workshops. One key objective of the Group is to better position the Caribbean to address critical technology challenges and issues and to collaboratively derive relevant solutions.
The international nature of gathering affords St Lucia a unique opportunity to showcase itself and OECS to the world as a significant technology hub. The CaribNOG program will include technical training sessions in Voice over IP (VoIP), Linux Security, IPv6 and advanced routing for building the skills of local ICT technicians and engineers.

The Caribbean Network Operators Group (CARIBNOG) has the pleasure of announcing and inviting you to participate in the Regional CaribNOG meeting being held during 13th to 15th April, 2011 in Puerto Rico. The 3 day event is being jointly supported by the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), the Caribbean Telecommunications Union, Gauss Laboratories and the Internet Society (ISOC).
CaribNOG meetings place heavy emphasis on building Caribbean technical capacity by providing targeted training facilitated by industry experts. At the same time these gatherings afford participants a unique forum for exchanging ideas, sharing experiences and building the relationships so essential to creating a truly regional technical community.
This CaribNOG meeting will build on the content of the inaugural meeting and offer a more in-depth treatment of Routing, and the business considerations for supporting IXPs. The meeting will also continue to promote
1) greater technical understanding of Internet Exchange Points; and
2) regional awareness of and participation in groups such as ISOC, ARIN, LACNIC and ICANN.

27th-August-2010 Philipsburg - Securing internet infrastructure featured during discussions at the Caribbean Network Operators Group 1st Regional Meeting held last week in St. Maarten.
Technology heavyweights from the Latin and North American regions joined their Caribbean counterparts to provide insight into a pilot program geared towards securing and maintaining critical internet infrastructure.
Mr. Stephen Lee, spokesman for CaribNOG, said, “CaribNOG is pleased to be involved in the seed stages of this critical program and has committed to rallying the growing CARIBNOG membership behind this initiative.
This forum which targets local and regional technology enthusiasts has already provided fertile ground for insightful discussions and hands on training. Regional and international experts have addressed topics on SIP Telephony and the basics of VOIP technologies to providing updates on what the Regional Internet Registries are focused on within the Global Internet Landscape.
Arturo Servin, Chief Technology Officer at the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Registry conducted a joint session with his counterpart, Mark Kosters, the Chief Technology Officer at the American Registry for Internet Numbers, ARIN, on the Resource Public Key Infrastructure programs that both organisations are presently deeply engaged in.
Servin, a native of Mexico said, “Lacnic is excited to be a part of the CARIBNOG community and is committed to working with CARIBNOG to bolster the internet infrastructure in the region.”
He also expressed his delight at the prospect of CARIBNOG working along with the soon to be launched LACNOG community on innovative research projects in the near future.
The 5 day CaribNOG meeting was part of the St Maarten ICT Week program of activities and targets the local and regional technology community.
All activities during the St. Maarten ICT Week were open to the public at no cost. The CaribNOG 1st Regional Meeting was held in conjunction with the Caribbean ICT Roadshow. Details can be found at www.caribnog.org.
