Thanks to those who attended CaribNOG 2 in St. Lucia on September 19th – 22nd 2011. The meeting was held at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Rodney Bay.  The four day event was jointly hosted by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union, the Government of St Lucia and Packet Clearing House, with the kind support of ARIN, LACNIC, ISOC and the BrightPath Foundation.

A key objective of CaribNOG is to better position the Caribbean to address critical technology challenges and issues and to collaboratively derive relevant solutions.

CaribNOG 2 featured representation from a wide cross section of the Caribbean Technical community with speakers from and industry experts from across the region and beyond.

FELLOWSHIPS

ARIN Fellowship ProgramThe application period for ARIN XXVIII fellowships will be between 11 July 2011 and 26 Aug 2011.

ARIN will provide financial support for one individual from each of the three sectors within ARIN’s service area (Canada, the Caribbean and North Atlantic Islands, and the United States and Outlying Areas) to attend ARIN XXVIII Public Policy and Members Meeting. Priority will be given to applicants who will be attending their first ARIN meeting. The purpose of the fellowship program is to broaden education outreach in the community and bring new ideas into the public policy discussions.

ARIN XXVIIII Meeting Fellowship Application Deadline August 26th

ARIN is pleased to offer a Meetings Fellowship Program to bring new voices and ideas to public policy discussions. This call is for Fellows to attend ARIN XXVIIII in Philadelphia from 12-14 October 2011. If you are interested in participating in the program, submit your application by 26 August. If you know someone that could benefit from attending, please forward this information to them. Three Fellows within ARIN’s service region will be selected. Fellows receive financial support to attend the Public Policy and Members Meetings, and ARIN Advisory Council representatives will serve as mentors to the Fellows to help maximize their meeting experience. Individuals selected for the fellowship receive:

  • Free meeting registration
  • Round-trip economy class airfare to the meeting, booked directly by ARIN
  • Hotel accommodations at the venue hotel, booked directly by ARIN
  • A stipend to cover meals and incidental travel expenses

CaribNOG Regional Meeting in St Lucia

The Caribbean Network Operators Group, (CaribNOG) will be hosting its next regional meeting in Castries, St Lucia, dates to be announced.

CaribNOG is a forum designed specifically to create greater levels of technical collaboration in the Caribbean. This event builds on the meetings in Puerto Rico and St Kitts held earlier this year.

Over the past two years CaribNOG has been building its reputation as an influential forum where network technicians and technology professionals share experiences and participate in high-tech training exercises and workshops. One key objective of the Group is to better position the Caribbean to address critical technology challenges and issues and to collaboratively derive relevant solutions.

The international nature of gathering affords St Lucia a unique opportunity to showcase itself and OECS to the world as a significant technology hub. The CaribNOG program will include technical training sessions in Voice over IP (VoIP), Linux Security, IPv6 and advanced routing for building the skills of local ICT technicians and engineers.

CaribNOG has gained strong support from some major organizations in the industry including :

  • the American Registry of Internet Numbers (ARIN),
  • the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN),

CaribNOG Puerto Rico

The Caribbean Network Operators Group (CARIBNOG) has the pleasure of announcing and inviting you to participate in the Regional CaribNOG meeting being held during 13th to 15th April, 2011 in Puerto Rico.  The 3 day event is being jointly supported by the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), the Caribbean Telecommunications Union, Gauss Laboratories and the Internet Society (ISOC).

CaribNOG  meetings place heavy emphasis on building Caribbean technical capacity by providing targeted training facilitated by industry experts. At the same time these gatherings afford participants a unique forum for exchanging ideas, sharing experiences and building the relationships so essential to creating a truly regional technical community.

This CaribNOG meeting will build on the content of the inaugural meeting and offer a more in-depth treatment of Routing, and the business considerations for supporting IXPs.  The meeting will also continue to promote

1)      greater technical understanding of Internet Exchange Points; and

2)      regional awareness of and participation in groups such as ISOC, ARIN, LACNIC and ICANN.

CARIBNOG 1 in St Maarten

The historic 1st Regional Gathering of the Caribbean Network Operators Group (CaribNOG) gets underway in St Maarten from 15-19 August. The five day event is being staged to coincide with the Government of St Maarten’s ICT Week and the Caribbean Telecommunications Union Caribbean ICT Roadshow.

The week-long program includes technical training sessions in Voice over IP (VoIP), Linux Security, IPv6 and advanced routing for building the skills of ICT technicians and engineers.
